In July of 2001 Bohdan was diagnosed with a torn Cruciate Ligament in his left knee. I decided to take a holistic approach to Bohdan's injury. We worked with a homeopathic vet and started giving Bohdan homeopathic remedies, and supplements that would help him. I also started taking him to a chiropractor and we had visits to an acupuncturist. For awhile all of these treatments looked like they were going to help. We continued light exercise to keep his muscle tone and flexibility. While I was persuing these treatments I began to research the different types of surgeries we had open to us. This is when I found the Orthodogs mailing list on Yahoo groups. This is an extremely helpful group of people, many of whom have gone through TPLO surgeries or are going through it with their pets. They truly create a support network that will help anyone who is going through this procedure.
On February 19th, 2002 he underwent Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery.
On January 26th, 2004 Bohdan underwent a TPLO on his right knee. We think he tore the knee ACL on Thanksgiving day. This time around I didn't want to wait as long. We took Bohdan to Dr. Andrew Sams in San Francisco. The ACL was partially torn, but damaged enough that it was adversely affecting Bohdan's mobility.
